It's a wrong translation.
Strong – 1096:
1) to become, i.e. to come into existence, begin to be, receive being
2) to become, i.e. to come to pass, happen
2a) of events
3) to arise, appear in history, come upon the stage
3a) of men appearing in public
4) to be made, finished
4a) of miracles, to be performed, wrought
5) to become, be made
In fact, this word, γίνομαι, means "to be born", "to be", "to become".
In Revelation 16:19, the intentional error of the translators, completely repeating another intentional error of the imperial Bible translators, 2 Thessalonians 2:7. About the distorted translation 2 Thessalonians 2:7 it is written in this forum topic.
The correct translation may be:

This verse speaks of the moment when the three places in Israel will receive the status of Jerusalem. The "great city" in this verse is not Babylon, but Jerusalem (similar to Revelation 21:10).
That is, three different places will be considered as Jerusalem, firstly, historical jerusalem, secondly, the Temple, built 30 km south of historic Jerusalem, will also be considered Jerusalem, thirdly, the city of Yahweh Shammah, which is the embodiment of Heavenly Jerusalem, will have the status of Jerusalem.
The word "divided", which is used in the incorrect translation of Revelation 16:19, carries a negative meaning. Mark this for yourself.
